What is scabies?

Scabies is a form of parasitic infestation that occurs when tiny mites called Sarcoptes Scabiei live on the outer layer of the skin. Once the mites have made contact they can then burrow and lays eggs leading to them quickly spreading over larger areas. This is how they become an infestation, which can look similar to an angry rash that is often itchy and irritating. As with other types of infections, scabies mites are spread by contact either with the skin itself or items that have come into contact with the skin.

With an estimated 300 million people worldwide affected by scabies, it is clearly an issue that is continuing to spread and grow. This has caused problems though in ways to help get rid of the mites, as while they continue to spread they can evolve and become more resistant. Scientific research from the Menzies School of Medicine in Darwin Australia found this with a number of well known treatments as well as an emerging resistance to some others. This has now lead to the need for new ways to deal with the infestation, and with many man-made synthetic drugs no longer being as effective, many have decided to turn to natural ingredients in order to help.

Why Manuka Oil?

Manuka oil is the key ingredient that is consistent throughout this combo pack and for good reason. The specific manuka oil used in this collection was chosen as it is considered the highest quality of manuka oil available. This is because it is made from the manuka plant from the East Cape of New Zealand. The plants found in this remote area have been studied and it has been found that they contain the highest levels of the triketone compound which is what gives the plant its antibacterial properties. The oil made from these superior plants is then made using a steam distilled process using wild harvested manuka plants, resulting in a high-quality manuka oil that is then infused within the Manuka Naturals range of products.

Manuka Soap

Consisting of a specially crafted blend of natural ingredients, including a range of essential oils, Manuka Soap is a simple way to take care of your skin. The more flexible of the three products, this manuka soap can be used for whatever and however you want. It can be used as a general cleanser to help clean the skin, as a hand sanitizer to help protect or on specific areas of the skin to aids its immunity against bacteria. Whether it’s used on the whole body or just a specific area, this soap is designed as a relaxing way to help with protecting and looking after the skin.

Manuka and Tea Tree Oil Blend

The Manuka and Tea Tree Oil Blend has been specially formulated as a powerful combination of essential oils known for their antibacterial properties. After realising that researchers in Japan who were studying resistance to conventional scabies treatment found that New Zealand Manuka essential oil was effective against scabies mites at certain low concentrations, the team at Manuka Naturals created the Manuka and Tea Tree Oil Blend as a unique essential oil formula to naturally help with the irritation of scabies mites.

In cream form, these oils can be calmer on the skin and with the addition of its other range of ingredients it makes a great way to help soothe, nourish and generally take care of the skin.
