Harrogate’s famous ‘English Spa’
With the discovery of mineral springs all the way back in 1571 by none other than Queen Elizabeth's physician, the town of Harrogate in North Yorkshire was christened with the name of ‘The English Spa’. This is because the springs discovered were found to contain a number of beneficial minerals including sulphur, iron and salt which lead to wealthy visitors from all over the world flocking to the small town to try the exclusive spa treatments from the mineral-rich waters.
Sulphur in skincare
Sulphur is an essential mineral that is present and needed in all cells in our body, especially in the hair, skin and nails. One of the most important roles of sulphur in the body is to help with collagen production, the protein that helps build cells and keep them healthy. Collagen is particularly useful for the skin as it helps to keep it strong and smooth. Because of this, sulphur has been given the name of ‘nature's beauty mineral’ and has become a popular ingredient in natural skin care products, with sulphur products specific to the spa town of Harrogate being particularly high-end.
