What are skin infections?
A skin infection is when a pathogen enters the skin and spreads. Most common skin infections are caused by one of four things; Bacteria, fungi, viruses or parasites. Although they can all fall under the generic term of ‘skin infection’ here are some examples of each type of the main four:
- Athlete's Foot
- Yeast Infections (e.g thrush)
- Nail Fungus
- Molloscum Contagiosum
- Cutaneous Larva Migrans (hookworm)
Skin infections can cause different symptoms depending on the specific infection but generally here are some to look out for on the skin:
- Unpleasant odour
